Activities Requiring Review

The following types of activities typically require review by the Institutional Stem Cell Research Committee.

  • Derivation of new human embryonic stem cell (hESC) or human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) lines
  • In vitro research using previously existing hESC or hiPSC lines
  • Introduction of hESC, hiPSC or their derivatives into non-human animals at any stage of development
  • Introduction of hESC, hiPSC, or their derivatives into non-human animals
  • Introduction of hESC, hiPSC, or their derivatives into humans
  • Research in which personally identifiable information about the donors of the blastocysts, gametes, or somatic cells from which the hESC or hiPSC were derived is linked to the cell lines (e.g. a code is maintained in which donors may be linked to the cell line)
  • In vitro experiments that use hESC or hiPSC and that are designed or expected to yield gametes
  • Introduction of hESC or hiPSC into non-human gametes or into non-human animals at any stage of development
  • Other research involving use of human embryos
